Everglades City after 1948 hurricane. There were two hurricanes in 1948. The first one from September 18-25 and was classified as Category 3. It struck Florida near Everglades City in the Ten Thousand Islands, moving northeast through Florida to emerge into the Atlantic near Jupiter. Collier Monument was erected on January 1, 1941 by Collier County, just 2 years after Collier died in March 1939. Bust on pedestal was one of two. One was stolen and the other vandalized.
